The winner of the 43rd international Istanbul N Kolay marathon among men was Ugandan athlete Victor Kiplangat.


The Istanbul Marathon is the world’s only annual transcontinental marathon distance of 42.195 km and has World Athletics Gold Label Road Races status.

The route of the Istanbul Marathon crosses the bridge over the Bosphorus, connecting Asia and Europe.

The marathon started 250 meters from the 15 Temmuz Şehitler Köprüsü (Martyrs’ Bridge). The former Bosphorus Bridge, in the European part of the Turkish metropolis. And ended at Sultanahmet Square.

The Ugandan runner won the marathon championship for the first time. Kiplangat covered the distance in 2 hours 10 minutes and 18 seconds.

Kenyan athlete Robert Kipkemboi was second with 2 hours 10 minutes and 23 seconds. While Ugandan athlete Solomon Mutai was third with 2 hours 10 minutes and 25 seconds.

The winner of women’s race was Kenyan athlete Sheila Yerotich with the result of 2 hours 24 minutes and 15 seconds. Her compatriot Jacqueline Chepgneno came second with 2 hours 24 minutes 21 seconds. And Ethiopian athlete Ayantu Abdi was third with 2 hours 24 minutes 45 seconds.

The program of the competition includes, in addition to the classic marathon. The 15 km race and the mass non-competitive race (fanran) at 8 km.

Since 2006 every participant of the marathon and the 15 km run receives a shoe-mounted chip. With the help of which the organizers track the location of the athlete on the route.

Last year the marathon did not take place because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 43rd N Kolay Istanbul International Marathon was attended by 54 professional athletes.

Each first-place winner will receive a prize of $35,000. Second-place athletes will receive $20,000 and third-place athletes will receive $10,000.
